Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Identify at least three common emotional, behavioral, and developmental impacts of childhood trauma on children and family systems.

  • Describe at least two trauma-informed treatment modalities that support healing, emotional regulation, safety, and caregiver engagement.

  • Apply at least three practical strategies for creating a safe, supportive, and culturally responsive environment for children and families receiving services.

Educational Goal

The educational goal of this workshop is to provide clinicians practical interventions to promote emotional safety with children and families.

Description

The workshop will highlight evidence-based approaches, practical engagement strategies, trauma-informed care principles, and ways providers can strengthen emotional safety, trust, and connection with both children and caregivers. Attendees will learn the emotional, behavioral and developmental impacts of childhood trauma. Presenters will provide resources for current best practices in trauma-informed care.

Presenters

Tim Jones, MS, LPC Tim Jones is a behavioral health leader and Licensed Professional Counselor (SC) with extensive experience developing and overseeing evidence-based behavioral health services for children and families. He joined Grace Harbour in 2022 to help lead the organization's expansion into South Carolina, where he has guided the growth of evidence-based programs and additional behavioral health services across the state. Prior to Grace Harbour, Tim spent more than a decade overseeing long-term care programs serving adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including individuals with significant behavioral and medically complex needs. He holds a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling and has provided outpatient counseling to individuals, couples, and families, with clinical experience treating anxiety, depression, substance use disorders, and relational concerns. Tim is licensed as a Professional Counselor in South Carolina and Georgia, as well as a Mental Health Counselor in Florida. He is passionate about advancing trauma-informed, evidence-based practices that strengthen children, families, and communities while fostering collaborative, relationship-centered systems of care.
Dr. Kevin Freeman, PhD, LPC-S, brings more than 25 years of experience in behavioral health care, organizational leadership, program development, clinical practice, and higher education. He currently serves as Chief Growth Officer at ncgCARE, the parent company of Grace Harbour. He has also held the roles of Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer and Vice President of Evidence-Based Programs. In these positions, Dr. Freeman has led strategic growth, organizational transformation, clinical program development, and the expansion of evidence-based services across multiple states. Dr. Freeman is the founder and former President and CEO of Grace Harbour, Inc. Under his leadership, Grace Harbour expanded its behavioral health services across Georgia, implemented programs such as Multisystemic Therapy and Functional Family Therapy. Dr. Freeman is a licensed professional counselor in Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Florida. He is also a National Certified Counselor, Master Addiction Counselor, and Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor. He regularly presents on evidence-based practices, addiction treatment, professional ethics, trauma-informed care, clinical supervision, and behavioral health program implementation. Throughout his career, Dr. Freeman has remained committed to expanding access to evidence-based mental health services, strengthening the behavioral health workforce, and leading meaningful improvements in clinical care and organizational performance.
