Learning Objectives
Participants will be able to:
-
Describe at least three core principles of the Trauma Ecology Integration Model™ (TEIM™) and explain how trauma and healing can be understood as processes that move through systems and time.
-
Identify and distinguish among primary, secondary, and tertiary orbits of harm and describe the roles of trauma satellites, echoes, and atmospheres within the model.
-
List at least four ecological factors (e.g., bodies, relationships, meanings, environments, institutions, cultures) and identify how they influence the development and maintenance of suffering and protective adaptations.
-
Apply an ecological lens to case conceptualization by identifying experiences, relationships, meanings, and environmental conditions that may support ongoing healing and reorganization.
Educational Goal
Description
The Trauma Ecology Integration Model™ (TEIM™) is an integrative framework that understands trauma and healing as processes that move through systems and time. Rather than viewing symptoms as isolated problems or evidence of pathology, TEIM™ explores how suffering and adaptation emerge within interconnected ecologies of bodies, relationships, meanings, histories, environments, institutions, and cultures. Through concepts including trauma satellites, echoes, orbits of harm, and atmospheres, participants will learn how experiences become organized across multiple levels of life and what conditions support change and ongoing healing. TEIM™ offers clinicians a more contextual, less pathologizing approach to understanding how pain moves through systems and time, and how healing can move through them too.
