Explain the importance of alpha waves and identify two devices that increase the prevalence of this frequency range.

Describe how neuromodulation, biofeedback, and neurofeedback can be used to calm and regulate subcortical regions of the brain, specifically the brain stem.

Identify how and why neurofeedback can address a wide variety of behavioral health issues.

Identify the therapeutic benefits of neurofeedback as an ancillary treatment for trauma and addiction.
Educational Goal
The educational goal of this workshop is to enhance understanding of neurotherapy modalities, including neurofeedback, biofeedback, and entrainment, and their integration into trauma and addiction treatment, with a focus on brain regulation, the arousal model, and the therapeutic benefits of neuromodulation in behavioral health care.

This presentation will explore the various types of neurotherapy utilized at Brain Centers across Meadows Behavioral Healthcare facilities, including neurofeedback, biofeedback, and entrainment. It will detail their distinct mechanisms and therapeutic applications while also exploring how they are incorporated into comprehensive treatment plans for trauma and addiction, emphasizing their role in healing, regulation, and long-term recovery.

Presenters

Deirdre Stewart, LPC, SEP, BCN
Deirdre Stewart is the Director of Trauma Resolution Services for The Meadows. She holds a BA in communication from Pepperdine University and a Master of Science in Counseling from The University of New England in New South Wales. She has trained at South Pacific Private in Sydney, Australia; Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan, Connecticut; and Family Behavioral Health in Boca Raton, Florida. Before returning to the U.S. in 2008, she worked in private practice at Hong Kong Psychological Services.
A licensed professional in the State of Arizona, Deirdre is board-certified in neurofeedback and trained in traditional and somatic attachment-focused EMDR, Somatic Experiencing (SE), and master-level Neuro Affective Relational Model (NARM). She also co-facilitates Pia Mellody’s Post Induction Therapy Training and Inner Child/Feeling Reduction Intensives, helping individuals address deep-rooted trauma and emotional healing.
