The Adolescent + Young Adult Collective is a consciously curated event bringing together professionals dedicated and passionate about working with adolescents and emerging young adults. This event will be two days of educational offerings, entertainment, and networking. Early bird registration available through March 31, 2026. Receive 15% off listed prices..

Breakout sessions will feature dynamic, engaging presenters offering effective and exciting treatments within this community, along with a carefully selected keynote speaker each day. Attendees will have the opportunity to gain continuing education credits applicable to various licensing boards.

The motivation behind AYAC is to create a united voice for adolescent and young adult treatment. The Adolescent + Young Adult Collective enables us to tailor an experience that benefits us professionally as well as the clients and families we serve.

The mission of AYAC is to bring together leaders in the treatment community directly working with clients and their families, including therapists, clinicians, educational consultants, educational attorneys, physicians, psychiatrists, and treatment providers.

Claudia Black, Ph.D. Claudia Black’s seminal work with children impacted by substance abuse in the late 1970s created the foundation for the adult child movement. Today, Claudia is a renowned author and trainer internationally recognized for her pioneering and contemporary work with family systems and addictive disorders. She’s a Senior Fellow and Clinical Architect of the Claudia Black Young Adult Center at The Meadows in Arizona. She serves on the Advisory Board for the National Association of Children of Addiction and the Advisory Council of the Eluna Foundation. Claudia has authored several well-known books, including Undaunted Hope: Stories of Healing from Trauma, Depression, and Addictions and Your Recovery, Your Life for Teens.
Jonathan Stevens, MD, MPH is a triple board-certified psychiatrist in Adult Psychiatry, Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, and Obesity Medicine with over 20 years of clinical experience. He specializes in the early identification and treatment of complex psychiatric conditions in adolescents and young adults, including mood disorders, psychosis, ADHD, OCD, developmental disorders, and dual-diagnosis presentations. Dr. Stevens is the founder of Psych Insight and InnerSpace in Houston, where he leads a multidisciplinary team delivering precision-based psychiatric care. His approach integrates structured diagnostics, neurocognitive measurement, pharmacogenetics, and interventional treatments such as TMS and ketamine-assisted psychotherapy. He is particularly focused on improving outcomes in treatment-resistant depression and emerging psychotic disorders through data-informed, individualized care. A former academic leader and department chief, Dr. Stevens now concentrates on advancing a modern, measurement-driven model of psychiatry that blends rigorous diagnostics with practical, real-world stabilization strategies. He is a frequent speaker on personalized psychiatry, early psychosis detection, and innovative treatment pathways for adolescents and young adults.
Kristine Jackson, LCSW, CEDS, CDWF-C, CET, CP, TEP, PCC often says “connection is the smallest definition of healing,” and those in her presence feel that connection. She earned her Master of Social Work, magna cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania with a Family Specialization and the first decade of her career she furthered her credentialing at UCLA in in co-occurring illnesses, got certified in sand tray therapy and then designed and directed a non‑profit school for children with severe emotional disturbances (SED) emphasizing family involvement. Over the next two decades she served as the clinical director of several programs in California while continuing to specialize in addiction, trauma, and experiential healing—most recently working with Onsite (https://experienceonsite.com/). Recently, she founded Unfiltered Grace to expand healing into supporting clinicians and caregivers, and she trains and teaches therapists worldwide, including an annual training trip to India. Kristine holds the highest credentialing in Psychodrama (TEP: Trainer, Educator, Practitioner), enabling her to teach the modality globally. She teaches for the International NLP Center, supervises practitioners, travels for corporate trainings and runs therapeutic intensives. Dr. Maddisen Espeseth, PsyD, IFS-I ACC, RPT-S, CST is a licensed clinical psychologist with a solo private practice in Anaheim Hills, California. She practices from an attachment-heavy, neurosequential lens, offering neuroaffirming psychodiagnostic testing and psychotherapy services. Specific to psychodiagnostic testing, Dr. Espeseth specializes in child and adult autism assessments but has extensive clinical experience assessing for a broad array of diagnostic presentations and neurotypes. She has historically supported highly complex clients in the partial hospitalization program (PHP), intensive outpatient program (IOP), community mental health (CMH), hospital, and private practice settings. Dr. Espeseth strongly values the provision of client-centered, holistic, biologically respectful therapeutic services. Specific to psychotherapy, Dr. Espeseth specializes in treating trauma-related disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Dr. Espeseth is a Certified Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapist, IFS Institute Approved Clinical Consultant (IFS-I ACC), Registered Play Therapist Supervisor (RPT-S), and Certified Sandplay Therapist (CST). In addition to direct clinical care, Dr. Espeseth is passionate about providing consultative and supervisory services as well as workshops and lectures.
Jill Krush, LPC,CAS,ACS, PAT , Certified Coach is a master level clinician and nationally known therapist, coach, trainer, speaker, and advisor. She is known for her whimsical nature in telling the truth when it’s hard to do so, through action methods, such as psychodrama , RTR and somatic practices. She walks with others in staying grounded in their strengths and post traumatic growth to explore more deeply areas that require attention. She leads professional trainings, executive summits and personal growth intensives all over the country. known for her grounded presence, direct communication, and dry humor. Jill blends trauma-informed practice with lived wisdom to create spaces that are real, relational, and restorative. She holds the position of Chief Experiential Officer at Choice House, a male specific treatment continuum in Boulder, Colorado. In addition, she serves with ONSITE workshops as well as leads The Gingko Way in Boulder , Colorado. Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Certified Addictions Specialist (CAS), Board-Certified Trainer, Educator, and Practitioner (TEP) in Psychodrama, Sociometry, and Group Psychotherapy, Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS), Certified Somatic Coach, Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) provider, EMDR Level II, and Pilates Instructor.
Jordan Held, LCSW (he/him) is a Primary Family Therapist and LGBTQ+ Specialist at Visions Adolescent Treatment Center. Jordan’s therapeutic practice centers around creating a healing-centered space for both adolescents and their families, working to decrease negative patterns and strengthen the family system. Jordan’s expertise is working with gender and sexual minority adolescents, particularly those displaying complex mental health presentations, including acute suicidality and persistent mood disorders.
Jordan speaks internationally about creating and supporting trauma- informed LGBTQ+ environments with an emphasis on informed consent and enhanced family communication. Jordan is an adjunct clinician at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles in the Center for Transyouth Health and Development, providing training, consultation, and community education. Jordan sits on multiple Board of Directors, serving queer and trans community both locally and nationally. Jordan has worked extensively in secondary school education, developing health and wellness curricula, focusing on DEI and cultivating strength and resiliency for adolescents.
Jordan holds a Master of Social Welfare degree from UCLA, a Master of Sports Leadership degree from Northeastern University and a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Connecticut. Jordan, a former Bostonian is an avid sneakerhead who self-cares by lifting heavy weights, going to the beach, loving his rescue dog, and embracing his gender euphoria!
Marissa Dvorscak, LMFT has been dedicated to supporting teens and their families in navigating mental health and addiction challenges since 2006. Specializing in adolescents and young adults engaging in high-risk behaviors. Marissa believes that meaningful change happens when we lean into resistance with curiosity, honor individuality, and embrace the creative potential within each client and family system. Marissa is passionate about fostering strong, authentic therapeutic alliances—spaces where clients feel truly seen, heard, and empowered to take an active role in their healing journey. She views treatment as a transformative, collaborative, and an evolving process and within the layers of support Residential treatment at Mission Prep at San Diego can provide, client and their families are awarded opportunities for communication safety, connection, and validation. Her practice integrates innovative and evidence-based approaches, including Dialectical Behavioral Therapy skills, strength-based and client-centered treatment, and clinical case management with a specialization in neurodivergence. Marissa is known for weaving creativity and flexibility into her work, tailoring interventions to honor each client’s unique voice and needs while encouraging families to embrace new ways of relating and supporting one another. In addition to her clinical work, Marissa has served as a Board of Behavioral Sciences-approved Clinical Supervisor since 2017, mentoring the next generation of therapists with an emphasis on ethical practice, cultural humility, and the transformative power of therapeutic relationships. Dean Porterfield, LPC-MHSP, Approved LPC Supervisor currently serves as the Executive Director of Adolescent Recovery of Cumberland Heights (ARCH) Academy and is on the Leadership Team of Cumberland Heights Foundation. Dean has been with Cumberland Heights for over 13 years. As the Executive Director he is responsible for day-to-day operations of ARCH Academy as well as overseeing program development, staff development, referral relations, research and community outreach/education on teen addiction. Dean is also the owner of Do Life! Counseling and Consulting, PLLC in Nashville, TN. Dean has served as Executive Director of an outdoor therapeutic program for adolescent’s male for over 10 years. Dean also has served on the Board of Director of NATSAP (National Board of Therapeutic Schools and Programs), and frequently presents at national, international, and local conferences. Dean is also an approved LPC clinical supervisor. Dean brings over 24 years experiences working with the adolescent population and their families. He believes in a strength-based approach and understands that authentic relationships with the teens and families we serve is paramount for lasting change. Dean is also invested in combining true tested approaches such as the Twelve steps with other evidenced based clinical modalities of intervention to treat not only the substance abuse, but also the underlying struggles that compliment the teen’s self-medicating behavior. Dean is a sought-out speaker who has spoken at numerous conferences nationally and internationally over the course of his career.
Stella B. Keitel, PsyD, is a Clinical and Forensic Psychologist who completed her Doctoral training at Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology, Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Yeshiva University. She specializes in treatment refractory, co‑morbid disorders, and high‑risk behaviors. She co‑founded Breaktide out of her passion for providing quality supports to those in need.
Maia Fohrman, LCSW, CSAT, has been practicing for 13 years in the field of mental health. Maia started my career in Burlington, VT, where she was a founding member of the UVM Collegiate Recovery Community in 2011. She gained experience working with adults in the first rural Housing First program, simultaneously interfacing with the county women's jail as a peer support for incarcerated women struggling with substance use and mental health disorders. Subsequently, she returned home to Chicago to complete her MSW degree, and focused on teen mental health. Maia moved to Los Angeles in 2016 and continued her work with adult mental health and substance use disorders. Over time, her interests evolved towards matters of intimacy, and she now specializes in sex and love addiction broadly, with more specific interests in chemsex and offending behavior. Maia has held positions as varied as clinical director in a luxury inpatient program, case management with unhoused people suffering from serious mental illness, individual and family therapist, and now facilitates groups on the topic of sex and love while also maintaining a private practice in Echo Park and Beverly Hills, CA. Outside of work, Maia enjoys film, drawing portraits and sketching Zines, as well as spending time with dear friends, her partner, and her kitten.
David Morrison, Psy.D. is a licensed psychologist in private practice in California and a member of the California Psychological Association. Dr. Morrison has worked closely with the Visions treatment team since 2005, providing consultation and evaluation services. He has extensive experience with residential and outpatient programs serving adolescents and adults and their families. In his private practice, he provides evaluation services, individual therapy, group therapy, parent coaching, and consultation services for local schools, and he has been a guest speaker many times. Since 1991, Dr. Morrison has worked with individuals on the Autism Spectrum. He also has work experience as a direct care staff and program manager for residential programs. Dr. Morrison and his wife have three young adult daughters and three grandchildren. Faith, Family, and Friends provide a strong and powerful foundational support system.
Kenneth Davis, LADAC, brings passion and lived experience to his role as Adventure Therapy Coordinator at Cumberland Heights, where he has served since 2017. He leads innovative fly-fishing programs and coordinates all adventure-based therapy across ARCH programming, blending outdoor experiences with evidence-based practices to create meaningful opportunities for healing. Having navigated his own recovery journey, Kenneth understands the challenges of addiction and is dedicated to inspiring adolescents to embrace their paths to recovery through connection with nature, resilience-building, and spiritual growth. As a certified Wilderness First Responder and licensed Tennessee Fishing Guide, Kenneth ensures both safety and insight in every adventure therapy experience. Outside of work, he enjoys backpacking, camping, fly fishing, and spending time with his wife and daughter.
Leading Onsite’s clinical division, Heather is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor, a Clinical Addiction Specialist, and a Certified Trauma Therapist. She completed a Master’s degree in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology from Naropa University. With nearly 20 years in the treatment industry, her clinical experience includes direct client care and executive leadership roles at inpatient, outpatient, and wilderness therapy programs. Heather has been a part of developing, designing, and opening five dual-diagnosis and trauma-informed behavioral health substance use programs. Her clinical expertise includes working with the LGBTQ+ community, trauma, mental health, substance use disorders, spirituality, anxiety, depression, grief, and loss. Her clinical approach is person-centered, holistic, and humanistic, utilizing evidence-based experiential interventions to support the growth of individuals.
