Educational Goal
The educational goal of this workshop is to equip participants with practical, experiential Sociometric techniques that enhance client engagement, facilitate emotional expression, and support trauma-informed healing in therapeutic settings.
Description
Sociometrics are psychoeducational, experiential processes that help clients organically transition from states of dysregulation to co-regulation. These methods get clients out of their chairs, on their feet, grounded in the room, and engaged with each other. Created by Dr. Tian Dayton to integrate seamlessly into treatment programs, outpatient settings, clinics, and one-on-one sessions, Sociometrics simplify the use of psychodrama and sociometry in therapy.
This workshop will demonstrate the embodied processes of role-play and group engagement that foster connection and bonding among participants. Through structured activities involving choice, sharing, and listening, clients learn to translate hidden emotions into words, bring them to conscious awareness, and express them in a safe environment. Attendees will explore how Floor Checks incorporate research into a psychoeducational process that transforms dry lecture material into dynamic personal sharing. We will also examine how the Trauma Timeline helps trace and address developmental trauma, while the Resilience Timeline supports the consolidation of therapeutic gains. Additionally, we will cover Experiential Letter Writing, including methods for sharing letters one-on-one, in groups, or virtually.
