  • Define mentalization.

  • Summarize the key theories of mentalization.

  • Describe how mentalization builds epistemic trust with clients and colleagues.

  • Practice mentalization by participating in a small group activity.

Educational Goal

The educational goal of this workshop is to increase understanding of mentalization.

Description

Our first session will introduce the theory of Mentalization, which forms the foundation of Adaptive Mentalization-Based Integrative Treatment (AMBIT). We will explore the theoretical background of mentalization, examine the why, how, and who of mentalizing, and discuss practical and clinical examples. Additionally, we will consider how mentalization supports the development of epistemic trust and how this, in turn, can enhance our relationships not only with clients, but also with team members and supervisees.
