This webinar will provide clinicians with practical strategies for the early identification and management of eating disorders in clinical practice. Participants will review effective screening approaches and tools for detecting eating disorders across a range of patient presentations. The session will also examine levels of eating disorder care and the medical and clinical criteria that guide decisions about when a higher level of care is indicated. Finally, participants will learn to recognize common medical complications of eating disorders and understand how these complications inform treatment, monitoring, and referral decisions.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Identify appropriate screening methods and tools available for detecting eating disorders in clinical settings.

  • Describe the different levels of care for patients with eating disorders and determine the medical and clinical criteria that indicate the need for each level.

  • Recognize common medical complications associated with eating disorders and understand their implications for treatment and monitoring.

Educational Goal

The educational goal of this workshop is to teach participants how to identify eating disorders in their practice, assess the level of risk, and refer out when needed to ensure patient safety.

Presenters

Christine Wood, MD, FAAP, CEDS, CLE
Christine Wood, MD, FAAP, CEDS, CLE, is a pediatrician and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist through the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (IAEDP). She has dedicated much of her career to the medical management of eating disorders. Since 2013, Dr. Wood has served as Medical Director of the residential eating disorder treatment center at Center for Discovery in San Diego, California. In 2022, she was appointed National Physician Liaison for the organization, supporting programs nationwide. Dr. Wood co-authored the American Academy of Pediatrics Clinical Report, “Preventing Eating Disorders and Obesity in Adolescents,” published in Pediatrics, and is the author of How to Get Kids to Eat Great & Love It. She is a frequent national speaker on eating disorders and is widely recognized for her leadership in bridging primary care and specialized eating disorder treatment.
