Description
Improving Parent Engagement is a presentation designed to provide support to clinicians working with parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other developmental disabilities. In ABA, parent involvement is a key component in obtaining optimal outcomes. This course introduces clinicians to variables that often interfere with a parents’ ability to participate with their child’s treatment. Parent stress, self-efficacy, and treatment acceptability will be discussed as constructs that can moderate engagement and how to provide support to improve care in each area. Learning objectives focus on strategies to assess barriers to parent engagement, identification of parent concerns, and creating goals and selecting strategies to improve engagement when it is low.
The presentation will discuss the following sections from the Ethics Code for Behavior Analysts and how they apply to parent engagement barriers: 2.14 Selecting, Designing, and Implementing Behavior-Change Interventions, 2.16 Describing Behavior-Change Interventions Before Implementation, and 2.19 Addressing Conditions Interfering with Service Delivery.
