Today’s adolescents are constantly exposed to confusing and sometimes harmful nutrition and wellness messages online. With platforms like TikTok aligning with public health guidelines only 2.1% of the time, supportive, evidence-based guidance matters more than ever. This is an engaging session focused on integrative strategies to support adolescents’ relationships with food, feelings, and body image.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Guide children to design a personalized resilient roadmap toward optimal wellness.

  • Identify and explain the eating behavior spectrum to better recognize our diverse relationships with food.

  • Explore the influence of social media and diet culture on a child’s body image, brain, self-esteem, and eating behaviors.

  • Equip mental health professionals with practical tools and engaging strategies to facilitate supportive and stigma-free conversations.

Educational Goal

The educational goal of this workshop is for participants to gain a clear understanding of how nutrition, food, emotional regulation, nervous system health, and social influences intersect to shape adolescents’ relationships with food and body image. Attendees will be equipped with practical, trauma-informed, and size-inclusive strategies to foster resilience, strengthen body trust, and sustainable wellness in children and adolescents.

Presenters

Lauren Dorman is a Registered Dietitian who owns Don’t Diet Dietitian and Schools Master Food and Mood. She has 23 years of experience working alongside children and adults who have food, feelings, and their bodies all tangled up. Lauren is a passionate change leader dedicated to cut through the nutrition noise and toxic trends. Her presentations are not only heard, they are a felt experience. Nourishing the Next Gen: Beyond the Plate. She presents at conferences NJSSNA, ASAP-NJ, NJEA, NJAHPERD, NJCA, NAMI, NJCEC, NJHMHAA, and ANJEE. She empowers students, staff, and parents with her 3 signature keynote presentations, equipping them with mind-body solution-focused tools to thrive. She is the author of Nine to Nourished: A Roadmap to Refuel Your Relationship with Food, Body, and Mind. With a Bachelor's degree from Penn State University and a Master's degree from Rutgers University, Lauren is a trusted expert in evidence-based nutrition science. Her mission is to make reliable nutrition and health education accessible to all, helping individuals develop a strong relationship with food, mind, and body that lasts a lifetime.
