This course directly integrates the principles of Wellbriety and First Responder trauma-informed care into the overall dual diagnosis model, highlighting the necessary flexibility and competence required of our clinical staff.

Educational Goal

The educational goal of this workshop is to deepen participants' understanding of Historical/Intergenerational Trauma and Acute/Cumulative Operational Trauma in dual diagnosis clients, and to apply integrated, culturally-relevant, and occupationally-aligned trauma-informed therapies to address both populations, including specific protocols for treating Moral Injury.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Differentiate between the clinical presentation of Historical/Intergenerational Trauma (Wellbriety) and Acute/Cumulative Operational Trauma (First Responders) in dual diagnosis clients.

  • Define Historical/Intergenerational Trauma and its symptoms of effects and impact on the brain

  • Compare, Contrast and Describe Similarities found in Acute Distress/Cumulative Operational Trauma

  • Define and apply Trauma-Informed CBT/DBT/Experiential adaptations that integrate culturally relevant healing practices and occupationally relevant coping skills

Presenters

Joani Alyene Burchett, LPC, LCDC, M.A. Joani believes that the benefits of therapeutic work include experiencing wholeness as a person and making vital changes to one’s life in order to live in freedom and peace. After graduating with her Bachelor of Science in Psychology, she went on to complete her M.A. in Counseling. Currently she serves as the Executive Director at Cypress Lake Recovery and also serves as a counselor with the Garth House, an advocacy and counseling center for children and teens who have been the victims of criminal acts. She is a child trauma survivor, and a committed advocate to help people find their voice again.
