Date & Time

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Describe how emotional dysregulation affects mental, physical, and spiritual well-being.

  • Identify techniques to interrupt the fight-or-flight response in emotionally overresponsive or underresponsive clients.

  • Apply the Spectrum of Emotions model as a clinical tool to support emotional awareness and regulation.

Educational Goal

The presentation will help clinicians better understand how emotional dysregulation affects clients’ mental, physical, and spiritual health, enabling more holistic and effective interventions. It will also provide practical tools and techniques for clinicians to assist clients in recognizing and managing their emotions across the spectrum, promoting healthier emotional regulation, and reducing cycles of self-destructive patterns.

Description

Clients with chronic mental health & addictive patterns struggle to regulate their emotions, often triggering their "fight or flight" response and fueling long-term mind-body disconnection. In this dynamic workshop, Mrs. Caldwell Engle will explore how this mind and body breakdown not only disrupts healthy emotional development but also has physical (medical) and spiritual consequences as well. She will review her Spectrum of Emotions model--a practical tool to differentiate healthy vs. unhealthy emotions--and offer specific techniques for helping clients learn emotional regulation from both ends of the spectrum. This workshop will utilize a blend of cognitive and experiential interventions, clinical case examples, and live discussion, and it is ideal for clinicians working with clients stuck in cycles of self-destructive patterns and emotional dysregulation.
