Executive functioning serves as a critical link between mental health and learning, influencing how students engage academically, regulate emotions, and manage behavior in school. This session builds on participants’ existing understanding of executive functioning by focusing on its practical application across therapeutic and educational settings.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Explain how executive functioning can serve as a bridge between mental health and learning, and how unmet needs impact school engagement, behavior, and regulation across settings

  • Apply therapeutic interventions to school-based executive function demands to support effective cross-setting skill transfer

  • Implement an executive functioning lens to clinical goal-setting and intervention planning, clarifying the provider’s role in supporting generalization and improving alignment with educational needs.

Educational Goal

The educational goal of this workshop builds on participants’ existing understanding of executive functioning by focusing on its practical application across therapeutic and educational settings.

Presenters

Amy Mounce, M.A., M.Ed., is an accomplished special educator, advocate, educational diagnostician, university instructor, and professional development leader with over 25 years of experience supporting neurotypical and neurodivergent learners across settings. She has worked in both public and private schools, collaborating with families and educators to design and implement individualized educational strategies and programs. Amy conducts academic evaluations and brings expertise in data-driven assessment, evidence-informed instructional practices, and effective intervention strategies. With deep expertise in evaluation, instructional planning, and education systems, she is committed to empowering learners, families, and educators through proactive, data-informed, sustainable supports that drive meaningful academic, behavioral, and social-emotional growth. Her proactive, data-informed approach fosters sustainable supports that enhance success in today’s dynamic educational environment. Amy holds a Master’s in Learning Disabilities from Columbia University, a Master’s in Educational Administration from the University of South Carolina, and a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education with a special education minor from American University.
