Educational Goal
The educational goal of this course is to address educational gaps regarding strategies to stabilize and improve lingering challenges of chronic/sub-acute mental illness and substance use using evidence-based practices in psychiatry, new and evolving treatment modalities, and patient safety trends.
Description
Co-occurring disorders are common and treatable. This presentation will detail the relationship between substance use and mental illness by guiding the audience through case studies. The case study presentations will also outline trends and protocols for treatment.

Presenters
With more than 20 years of experience, Mr. Thompson serves as Program Director of Sibcy House and the Clinical Director for the Lindner Center of HOPE’s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). In his oversight of IOP, Mr. Thompson ensures quality, evidence-based treatment for those struggling with addictive issues. In his outpatient practice, Mr. Thompson works principally with the adults and adolescents with addictive or co-occurring conditions, in addition to providing services to Lindner’s Residential Services and consulting for Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in the Psychiatry Department.
Prior to joining the Lindner Center of HOPE, Mr. Thompson served as a counselor at Clermont Recovery Center. Other roles included Counselor/Outpatient Director at Northland, Milford, Ohio, AOD Lead Therapist at Talbert House, Mt. Orab, Ohio, and Lead Counselor at The Counseling Center, Inc. in Portsmouth, Ohio.
As Clinical Director of Addiction Services, Dr. Tuell provides mental health and addiction psychotherapy services to a wide variety of treatment populations. He is a key contributor to the development and implementation of the Integrated Co-occurring Disorder Treatment Program for residential and outpatient services at Lindner Center of HOPE.
Dr. Tuell is a clinical psychotherapist and a chemical and behavioral addiction specialist. Dr. Tuell has over 37 years of experience in the field of mental health and addictions. Prior to joining Lindner Center of HOPE, Dr. Tuell served as Center Director and Director of Employee Assistance Programs for Family Service of the Cincinnati Area, where he provided supervision of all administrative and clinical components of a mental health/substance abuse counseling center. Dr. Tuell has served as Clinical Director of the Warren County Juvenile Justice Center and as a psychotherapist for Community Mental Health Centers of Warren County in Lebanon, Ohio and Mental Health Services West in Cincinnati, Ohio.
