Educational Goal

The educational goal of this module is to understand cultural diversity, cultural biases, how culture affects recovery, and how the role of the Recovery Specialist changes when working with multicultural clients/families.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Define culture, cultural awareness, cultural sensitivity, cultural competence, micro culture, macro culture, cultural bias, cultural humility and cultural stigma.

  • Explain cultural diversity through macro and micro culture.

  • Provide at least two examples of cultural differences, cultural biases, and how culture may affect recovery.

  • Describe at least two ways to increase cultural awareness, competence, sensitivity and humility.
