Educational Goal
The educational goal of this workshop is to increase knowledge about crisis negotiations concepts and approaches taking into consideration a mental health perspective.
Description
Thousands of crisis incidents occur in the United States every year. Over twelve percent of those incidents involved hostage situations. This workshop introduces basic hostage negotiation concepts and approaches taking into consideration a mental health perspective. Specifically, we will discuss “how-to’s” when negotiating with specific populations as well as managing the stress of the negotiator. This workshop will also review some correctional hostage events from a psychological lens.

Presenters

Dr. Godlove is a licensed Clinical Psychologist who works for the Federal Bureau of Prisons as a Mental Health Treatment Coordinator in the Central Office. She has the collateral duty of serving as a National Crisis Negotiations Team lead trainer. Dr. Godlove also provides direct clinical services to adults in her community through her private practice, Joyful Guidance. She has been a practicing psychologist for over 16 years.
