Educational Goal

The educational goal of this workshop is for attendees to learn about common perinatal conditions, the differences between physical health services and mental health services, and practical ways to build relationships with other healthcare providers in order to collaborate on patient care.

Description

This presentation will provide behavioral health professionals with an overview of common perinatal conditions and the unique relationship between physical and mental health during the perinatal period. Participants will explore key differences between physical health services and mental health services, including the roles, responsibilities, and scope of practice of various healthcare providers involved in perinatal care. The presentation will also address practical strategies for developing collaborative relationships with obstetric, primary care, pediatric, and other healthcare professionals. Participants will learn approaches for improving communication, coordinating care, making appropriate referrals, and supporting integrated, patient-centered care for perinatal clients. Emphasis will be placed on practical skills that can be applied across multidisciplinary healthcare settings.

Presenters

Lauren Lehman, MA, LMHC, is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor providing outpatient counseling services for children, adolescents, and adults in Northern Indiana. She also serves as an intake coordinator in an inpatient behavioral health setting, conducting crisis assessments and facilitating access to mental health care. Lauren's clinical interests include perinatal mental health, integrated behavioral health, health psychology, and the relationship between physical and mental health. She is particularly interested in improving collaboration between medical and behavioral health providers to support whole-person care. Lauren is pursuing opportunities for advanced training and research focused on the intersection of psychological and physical health outcomes across the lifespan.
