Description
This training introduces an Internal Family Systems (IFS)-informed understanding of childhood trauma and behavior. Participants will explore how children's behaviors often represent adaptive responses to overwhelming experiences rather than defiance or pathology. Using core IFS concepts, participants will learn to recognize the protective function of children's behaviors, deepen their trauma-informed understanding, and strengthen therapeutic interventions that promote safety, connection, and healing.
Educational Goal
The educational goal of this workshop is to view children's behaviors through a trauma-informed lens versus pathology and diagnosis.

Jennifer Jordan PhD, LCMHC, LPC-S, NCC, CCTP
Jennifer C. Jordan, Ph.D., LPC/S, LCMHC, NCC, CCTP, is a tenured professor, counselor educator, and behavioral health leader with more than 28 years of experience in clinical practice, counselor education, and professional regulation. She is the Founder and CEO of Koi Counseling & Wellness, President of the South Carolina Board of Examiners for Professional Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists, Addiction Counselors, and Psycho-Educational Specialists, and Executive Director of the South Carolina Counseling Association. Dr. Jordan specializes in trauma-informed care and has extensive training in Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), EMDR, Brainspotting, and play therapy. Her passion is helping clinicians integrate evidence-based, experiential approaches that promote healing and resilience in children, adolescents, and families.
