Educational Goal

Description

When it comes to serving veterans and first responders, focusing only on trauma misses the mark. What lies beneath the surface is often more complex, more human—and far more painful—than any clinical diagnosis can capture. This course, inspired by the groundbreaking work of Dr. Shauna Springer and the clinical expertise of Robyn Sonnier, takes you beyond PTSD into the heart of what truly haunts many warriors: moral injury, survivor’s guilt, grief, and suicidal despair. These are not just “symptoms”—they are soul wounds that cut deep into identity, purpose, and the very meaning of life after service. You’ll learn how moral injury—caused by betrayal, impossible choices, or actions that violate a person’s deepest values—can quietly erode even the strongest individuals. You’ll explore how grief and survivor guilt silently burden those who’ve lost teammates, and how suicidal ideation often stems from challenges other than direct exposure to trauma. We’ll challenge the trauma-centered narrative and help you recognize what others miss: the internal battles protectors fight long after the mission ends. You'll walk away with tools to name what’s often unnamed, to hold space for pain that’s rarely spoken, and to connect in ways that go far beyond traditional therapy. This isn’t a course about “fixing” trauma. It’s about understanding the full landscape of the warrior’s invisible wounds—so you can respond with wisdom, humility, and the kind of strength that earns trust while not feeding into the “damaged” narrative that keeps these clients from seeking therapy. If you want to move from well-meaning to life-changing in your work with warriors, this is where the real journey begins.
