Tamara Lyn

During decades of service in high-intensity correctional settings, Tamara S. Lyn, PhD, ABPP, acquired unique experience and deep insights into all aspects of leadership and professional development. Dr. Lyn served in a variety of clinical and executive leadership roles in corrections, including oversight of all psychology programs in the Bureau of Prisons between 2015 and 2020. Her career culminated in the role of Warden, where she was one of a very small cohort of women in the position. Working as a Warden during a global pandemic, Dr. Lyn developed deep insights into crisis management for teams and individuals, fostered psychological safety, and taught skills for resilience and learning agility.

As the founder of High Ready Coaching and Consulting, Dr. Lyn serves as an executive coach and consulting psychologist to leaders and teams in high-stakes, high-impact settings such as law enforcement, health care, and higher education. She takes a strengths-based approach, combatting burnout and disengagement with interventions to build resilience and ground leaders in their core values.

Dr. Lyn is licensed to practice psychology in North Carolina and West Virginia. She earned both a master’s and a doctorate in psychology from The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Her most recent article, “The Surprising Journey from Psychologist to Warden,” was published in Psychological Services, the journal of APA’s Division 18, Public Service Psychology, in December 2022. She was elected to the American Psychological Association (APA) Board of Directors for the 2022-2024 term and is an APA Fellow in divisions representing public service psychology (Division 18) and consulting psychology (Division 13). Dr. Lyn is Board certified as a specialist in Organizational and Business Consulting Psychology (OBCP) and is a Trustee of the American Board of Professional Psychology.
