NaKaisha Tolbert-Banks

Dr. NaKaisha Tolbert-Banks, DSW, LCSW, LCAC, CPC is a nationally recognized mental health expert, author, educator, and advocate with over two decades of impact in social services and emotional wellness. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Clinical Addictions Counselor, she brings a culturally responsive and trauma-informed lens to her work in women’s mental health, with particular focus on social isolation, perinatal wellness, and systemic disparities affecting marginalized communities.

Dr. Tolbert-Banks blends her clinical expertise with somatic practices, mindfulness, and coaching to empower individuals through life’s transitions. Her professional journey spans child welfare, community mental health, and higher education, where she has served as adjunct faculty at several universities. Her teaching approach is rooted in cultural awareness, advocacy, and the development of future social work leaders who embody empathy and innovation.

Additionally, as a Certified Professional Coach, Dr. Tolbert-Banks uses positive psychology, laughter, and practical tools to support clients navigating overwhelm and life adjustments. Her pioneering research on belonging and social isolation laid the foundation for the Belonging as Black Women S.A.C.R.E.D. Facilitator Training Program, launched in 2022. She also led a 2023 community pilot program engaging Black grandmothers to foster connection and reduce social isolation.

Dr. Tolbert-Banks is the Founder of D.U.O. EmpowerMEnt Services, providing therapy, coaching, wellness training, and empowerMEnt development services. She is the host of My Feelings Over Tea, a podcast blending humor and healing, and is a sought-after international speaker committed to equity, restoration, and community care. Her work invites others to reclaim joy and belong more deeply to themselves and the spaces in which they serve.
