About

David B. Rosengren, PhD, is the President and CEO of the Prevention Research Institute (PRI). A clinical psychologist with extensive experience in treatment, research, and training, he previously served as a research scientist at the University of Washington’s Alcohol and Drug Abuse Institute, where he helped develop and study assessment and training models for motivational interviewing (MI).
Dr. Rosengren was part of the founding team of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT), an international organization spanning more than 40 countries and six continents with over 1,600 trainers. He is the author of Building Motivational Interviewing Skills: A Practitioner Workbook and co author of MI from the Inside Out: A Self Practice/Self Reflection Workbook for Practitioners (2025), written with Drs. Lynne Johnston and Charli Hilton. In 2025, he served as a featured presenter at the MINT Forum in Christchurch, the MI Summit in Tallahassee, and the UK/IRE MINT in Glasgow. He also works with BetterUp as a consultant and luminary presenter.
His professional background includes work across substance use, major mental health disorders, adolescent services, criminal justice, and broader social and health systems. His current interests focus on motivational interviewing, self determination theory, positive psychology, implementation intentions, and the dissemination of evidence based practices.
