Working in the ‘Here and Now’: Deepening Therapeutic Encounters

The key to helping these clients is to pay close attention to their relationship with you, the clinician, in real time — the “here-and-now.” Using and then discussing video clips from his therapy session with; sad, lonely, and self-critical clients who crave caring and attention, Yalom teaches how to deepen our own clients’ emotional experiences, expand their self-awareness, and build a springboard for healthy relationships outside of the therapy room.

With over 30 years of experience doing therapy, learning from the masters — especially his father, Irvin Yalom — and creating clinical training videos, Yalom knows that if close attention is paid to what’s happening moment to moment with the client, much can be revealed and harvested productively for therapeutic progress.
