Description

Sex addiction and porn addiction are prevalent in society today and clinicians need to be more prepared to address these challenges.  This presentation will explore what sex addiction is, how to determine if your client is a sex addict, the role of childhood trauma as it relates to the development of the arousal template and its role with sex addiction, and innovative tools and techniques for treatment.

Steven Wolt

Steven Wolt is an influential healthcare entrepreneur with a passion for breaking down barriers and reducing stigma to improve outcomes. Steve’s personal story of addiction and recovery along with his passion for helping others makes him a truly inspirational leader. He has helped countless men along their journey of recovery.

Steve is the founder and CEO of Valor Recovery, a program for men to overcome problematic and compulsive sexual behaviors, porn abuse and intimacy challenges. Being in long-term recovery from sexual compulsivity, this is a deeply personal mission. Steve’s goal is to break down the barriers that prevent men from talking about these issues and getting help they need.
Prior to this, Steve was the President of Freedom Institute, a prestigious state-of-the-art, non-profit, outpatient treatment and recovery center located in midtown Manhattan, founded in 1976. Freedom Institute was a pioneer in the addiction treatment industry offering a range of innovative, evidenced based treatment services for adults, young adults and their families
struggling with substance use, addictions and trauma.

In addition, Steve was co-founder and CEO of Veritus; the nation’s first tele-health, intensive, outpatient treatment program for licensed professionals struggling with substance use disorders and mental health. From an idea on a piece of paper long before COVID, to partnering with one of the nation’s oldest and most prestigious treatment providers, Freedom Institute, Veritus helped to eliminate the barriers professionals experience in accessing
treatment.

Before transitioning his career to behavioral health, Steve had a long and very successful career working in executive and employee benefits, estate planning, and insurance. Steve was regularly one of the top sales leaders in the industry having won numerous top producer awards from the largest insurance companies in the world. Steve currently resides in Bend, Oregon with his wife, Jennifer and their dogs, Henry and Quincy.

Stephanie Emde, PsyD

Dr. Stephanie Emde is a dedicated clinical leader specializing in addiction treatment, with a primary focus on sex addiction. She has served as the Clinical Director at Gentle Path at The Meadows for three years, where she oversees comprehensive treatment programs for individuals struggling with various addictions. Additionally, she works as a Treatment Consultant and provides clinical supervision, ensuring high standards of care in the field.

Stephanie is highly trained in evidence-based and trauma-informed therapies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) through The Beck Institute, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) through EMDRIA, Certified Sex Addiction Therapy (CSAT) through IITAP, and Post-Induction Therapy (PIT) through The Meadows. Her expertise allows her to provide specialized care to those navigating complex addiction and trauma recovery.

In 2024, she joined the Board of the American Foundation of Addiction Research, contributing her knowledge and experience to the advancement of addiction science and treatment. Passionate about serving those who have sacrificed for their country, Stephanie is deeply committed to helping active duty and veteran military personnel find healing and lasting recovery.

She holds a Doctorate in Clinical Forensic Psychology (PsyD) and continues to advocate for innovative, research-driven approaches in addiction and mental health treatment.
