Description

This training is designed to provide participants with knowledge and skills to have effective conversations with family members of those needing a higher level of care. It will focus on family dynamics, communication styles, and boundary setting. Through a combination of theoretical understanding and practical examples, attendees will learn to provide essential tools to navigate higher level of care needs.

Presenters

Abby Zimmerman, LMHC
Abby was an Audiologist for many years and returned to graduate school to become an LMHC after a loved one in her family struggled with a severe life-threatening mental illness. She was so grateful and inspired by the help she and her family received, that as a result, she felt passionate about paying it forward. She has worked in clinical settings including Residential Treatment Facilities where she was a primary therapist as well as the Family Services Coordinator. In addition, she has run support groups for friends and family of those struggling with eating disorders.

Abby is a licensed mental health counselor and she works with teens and adults. She has a concentration in trauma and has extensive experience working in the field of eating disorders, mood disorders, personality disorders, substance abuse, and trauma. She uses various therapy approaches to help people manage and overcome their obstacles. She provides both individual and family therapy for those who need or want to improve their quality of life and relationships. She doesn’t believe therapy is a one-size-fits-all, and therefore she uses several different therapeutic models and psychotherapy techniques. She works collaboratively with her clients to identify their objectives and set the appropriate goals necessary to effect change. She values empathy, compassion, and acceptance, and these are values she incorporates in both her personal and professional life.
Erica Waldron LMHC, Qualified Supervisor, CEDS
Erica Waldron (She/Her) is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with over a decade of clinical expertise in the eating disorder and mental health field. With a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Sacred Heart University, as well as, a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Palm Beach Atlantic University, Erica's journey extends beyond academia. As a former four-year Division I Field Hockey Athlete, she earned accolades for her athletic prowess and embodies a spirit of compassion, tenacity, and teamwork that remains unwavering.

Throughout her professional journey, Erica has assumed diverse roles as Program, Clinical Director and now Clinical Supervisor with Center for Discovery. Erica has undergone EMDR training, is a Qualified Supervisor, a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist, and sits on the baord for the National Alliance for Eating Disorders (formly The Alliance for Eating Disorders Awareness).
