Educational Goal

The educational goal of this workshop is to equip participants with the knowledge to assess clients for eating disorders and substance use disorders, prepare individualized treatment plans, and treat and/or refer out based on best practices. 

Description

Eating disorders commonly occur with other mental health disorders, specifically substance use disorder. This presentation will review the prevalence of substance use disorders in the eating disorder population, shared risk factors, and treatment interventions.

Presenters

Sarah DeSantis, LCSW

Sarah DeSantis is the Clinical Director at Koru Spring. Her goal is to help those struggling with eating disorders reach full recovery by providing a unique and individualized treatment approach. Sarah has worked in the eating disorder field for over eight years in a variety of roles including admissions, clinical, and leadership. She is passionate about helping those with eating disorders overcome and explore the underlying drivers of eating disorders including body image concerns, trauma, perfectionism, family dynamics, low self-esteem, and interpersonal issues. Sarah is originally from New York and obtained her Bachelor’s degree from Long Island University and her Master’s degree from Fordham University. Sarah enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and reading.
