Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • At the end of this presentation, participants will recognize evidence-based pharmacologic, psychotherapeutic, and psychosocial interventions to support both symptom reduction and functional recovery in individuals with psychotic disorders.

  • Discover the use of measurement-based care tools (e.g., symptom severity, functional status, and patient-reported outcomes) to inform clinical decision-making and track progress over time.

  • Participants will differentiate between interventions with strong empirical support and those with limited evidence in the treatment of psychosis.

  • Apply recovery-oriented principles—including patient-centered goal setting, increased personal agency/autonomy, and community functioning—into evidence-based treatment planning.

Educational Goal

The educational goal of this workshop is to identify evidence-based treatments for psychotic disorders and apply measurement-based care strategies to improve functional recovery.

Description

This course provides a comprehensive, evidence-based overview of current best practices in the treatment of psychotic disorders, with a focus on both symptom reduction and long-term functional recovery. Participants will explore pharmacologic, psychotherapeutic, and psychosocial interventions supported by empirical research, with an emphasis on integrating these approaches into real-world clinical care. The presentation highlights the role of measurement-based care, including the use of symptom rating scales, functional assessments, and patient-reported outcomes to guide clinical decision-making and monitor treatment progress over time. Attendees will learn to distinguish between interventions with strong empirical support and those with more limited or emerging evidence, strengthening their ability to apply critical appraisal in practice. Grounded in recovery-oriented principles, the course emphasizes patient-centered goal setting, the promotion of autonomy and personal agency, and strategies to enhance community functioning. Practical application is a key focus, with discussion of how to adapt evidence-based interventions to address common clinical challenges such as treatment resistance, comorbid conditions, and barriers to engagement and adherence. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped with actionable strategies to deliver individualized, evidence-informed care that supports both clinical improvement and meaningful recovery outcomes.
