Participants will be able to:

  • Describe the relationship between trauma, culture, and shame.

  • Identify 3-4 activities related to dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin, endorphins, and cortisol.

  • Describe how neurochemicals impact emotional regulation and resilience.

  • Construct a sensory diet based on a quick screening metric.

  • Explain how to apply theoretical knowledge to practical interventions aimed at promoting resilience and reducing shame.

  • Define 2-3 culturally and developmentally appropriate strategies for addressing shame in various environments (e.g., school, home, workplace).

  • Define 2-3 diverse needs and experiences of individuals from different backgrounds and demographics.

Description

Participants will analyze behaviors in order to predict a desired neurochemical response. A quick metric will be provided to screen, develop interventions, and progress monitor social emotional learning (SEL) goals. There will be optional opportunities for guided discourse, self-regulation, mindfulness, and questions. Participants will leave with resources that include quick-reference strategies for de-escalation, calming, and resilience.
