The educational goal of this workshop is to increase knowledge about the role of work in mental health.
Description
This workshop aims to equip participants with the knowledge and tools to understand the importance of workplace meaning, stability, and satisfaction, and how these factors impact mental health outcomes. The session covers relevant research on how meaning, stability and satisfaction in the workplace intersect with the most common mental health issues that can arise in the workplace including: Anxiety Disorders, Depression, Burnout, Work-related Stress, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, and Loneliness and Isolation (Especially in remote or hybrid work environments). This workshop will also provide actionable strategies for fostering a healthier, more fulfilling work environment.

Presenters
With a vibrant career spanning over 25 years as a military spouse, Deborah Merritt has journeyed across the globe, steadfastly supporting military families. She brings over two decades of counseling experience in addition to skillfully managing large-scale, complex mental health programs. Deborah is a dedicated licensed professional counselor and supervisor with a PhD in Psychology. A compassionate leader, she champions work-life balance, advocates for respectful and engaging workplaces, and emphasizes accommodating individual needs through flexible work environments.
A resilient cancer survivor, Deborah has navigated recovery with grace and determination. This transformative experience has taught her to prioritize what truly matters, focusing on the important aspects of life and eliminating distractions. In addition to inspiring countless professionals, Deborah has delivered hundreds of seminars designed to enhance the counselor’s toolbox with proven practical tools. These seminars tackle difficult topics such as inclusion and self-care, equipping counselors and professionals to better support their clients and themselves.
