Effective eating disorder treatment requires coordinated care across disciplines. This clinician- focused webinar, led by a Registered Dietitian and a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in eating disorder treatment, examines the distinct yet complementary roles of each provider within a multidisciplinary treatment model. Participants will explore how dietitians and therapists assess and intervene from different clinical frameworks, and how joint sessions can be used creatively and strategically to support nutritional rehabilitation, emotional processing, and behavior change. The presenters will discuss clinical Indications for joint sessions, ethical and scope-of-practice considerations, and how collaboration can reduce mixed messaging, enhance treatment adherence, and improve client outcomes will be discussed. Through case examples and practical guidance, clinicians will gain actionable tools for integrating joint sessions into client care more effectively, whether practicing in private practice, group settings, or higher levels of care.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Differentiate the clinical roles, scope of practice, and expertise of Registered Dietitians and Licensed Professional Counselors in eating disorder treatment.

  • Identify clinical indications, benefits, frequency, and contraindications for joint dietitian–therapist sessions.

  • Describe how interdisciplinary collaboration enhances treatment consistency, safety, transparency, and client engagement.

  • Implement practical strategies for coordinating care, treatment planning, and communication within an eating disorder treatment team.

Educational Goal

Presenters

Maggie Lefavor MS, RDN, LDN is a Registered Dietitian and Jessica Coviello LPC, SAC is a Licensed Professional Counselor. Together, they have over 15 years of experience working in eating disorder treatment in various levels of care and are the co-hosts of the Nourish and Empower Podcast, a resource on mental health, nutrition, eating disorders, diet culture, and body image. They both work at a group practice in Summit, NJ called Hilltop Behavioral Health and practice from a Health at Every Size and trauma-informed framework. Maggie and Jessica have worked closely for over 6 years frequently supporting clients in joint sessions.
Jessica Coviello (LPC) is a Licensed Professional Counselor and works as an eating disorder therapist at Hilltop Behavioral Health in New Jersey. Jessica works with a multitude of diagnoses, and she specializes in eating disorders where she has worked in multiple levels of care within the population for nine years. Jessica received her bachelor’s in Women and Gender studies from Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and then received her master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Florham Park, New Jersey. Jessica is a firm believer that all foods fit in moderation as well as achieving health at every size. Through this lens, Jessica finds passion, happiness and purpose in helping others learn and implement self love, acceptance, boundaries, body positivity and neutrality while building healthy relationships with themselves, food, their bodies, and others. Jessica is the co-host of the Nourish & Empower Podcast on Spotify and Apple Podcasts along with Maggie Lefavor.
