Date & Time

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Identify the three different exposure types and when they are used in ARFID treatment.

  • Describe a treatment plan for ARFID patients with specific fears.

  • Describe at least two exposure techniques to address specific fears.

  • Design an exposure for a sample ARFID patient.

Educational Goal

The educational goal of this workshop is to help clinicians understand the different exposure types and when to use them in the treatment of patients with ARFID, learn about exposure techniques for ARFID patients with specific fears, and design treatment plans for these patients.

Description

Avoidant-Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) affects an estimated 3–5% of children and 5% of adults, often requiring a unique, specialized approach compared to other eating disorder diagnoses.

This event focuses on evidence-based interventions and exposure techniques for treating ARFID. During this presentation, Dr. Jessie Menzel, Clinical Psychologist and SVP of Clinical Programs at Equip, will explore the different types of exposures, when they are used in treatment, and how to integrate these methods into treatment plans for patients with ARFID. This presentation will also examine specialized exposure techniques for patients with specific fears and teach clinicians how to design targeted exposure interventions for this population.
