Description
This workshop defines trauma-informed care and outlines how it can be utilized in mental health treatment. Participants will examine the impact trauma has on the nervous system and the brain. Additionally, attendees will learn about the basics of family systems and the impact of the family system on recovery. The workshop concludes with a discussion of concrete ways practitioners can take a more systemic approach to treating trauma.

Presenters

Shara Turner, LPC, MSC, NCC, EAGALA
Shara brings to Recovery a unique perspective and skill set as she spent the majority of her earlier career in public health working with individuals dually diagnosed with a variety of substance use and mental health disorders, complex trauma, and extreme environmental and social inadequacies. The challenges faced in this arena have provided her with a strong base of practice in assessment, treatment, and case management.
Shara is also a trauma survivor and advocates for treating all individuals through a lens of trauma. Her extensive personal and professional experience gives her the knowledge and passion to train, educate, and treat every individual she encounters. Since her induction to Sabino in 2019, Shara has developed a comprehensive, individualized, and sophisticated program that has seen incredible success in changing the lives of those affected by trauma.
In addition to attaining licensed professional counselor certification, she is versed in a variety of therapeutic modalities including NARM, EMDR, Brainspotting, DBT, and CPT. Shara’s passion lies in stepping away from the stigma of diagnosis and treating the individual, utilizing an integrative and holistic approach.
