Description
In this presentation, we will review the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) criteria for medical detox and learn the key indicators that predict its need. For many, the fear and discomfort of withdrawals perpetuate substance use well beyond the decision to change. The standards for detox within the addiction industry have always included a degree of suffering. Examples of patient experiences and data will be shared that demonstrate the benefits in offering humane and appropriate services to those trying to engage in recovery. Proactive and compassionate detox services improve outcomes and treatment completion for patients. By the end of this presentation, the audience will understand the criteria for medical detox and dispel myths about this population.
