Educational Goal

The educational goal of this workshop is to increase clinicians' knowledge and competence in the use of therapeutic creative arts interventions to support client engagement, emotional regulation, self-expression, and continuity of care between sessions. Participants will develop practical skills for selecting, implementing, and evaluating both traditional and digital creative arts-based activities that are appropriate for diverse behavioral health populations, including individuals with PTSD and related mental health concerns.

Description

This course will introduce clinicians to practical ways of incorporating therapeutic creative arts into care beyond the therapy session. Presenters will discuss how creative arts-based activities can support emotional expression, self-regulation, engagement, and continuity of care for clients between appointments. The course will compare traditional approaches, such as journaling prompts, worksheets, mandala coloring, and in-session/group activities, with digital approaches that can provide clients with structured access to therapeutic creative arts outside scheduled clinical time. Special attention will be given to clinical populations, including clients with PTSD and related behavioral health needs, where engagement, safety, and modality fit are especially important. Participants will leave with practical strategies for selecting, introducing, assigning, and following up on creative arts-based activities in a clinically appropriate way.
