As stated in the ACA Code of Ethics 2014, a core value of the counseling profession is to honor diversity and embrace a multicultural approach to supporting the worth, dignity, potential, and uniqueness of people within their social and cultural context. This presentation aims to increase cultural humility by examining death, dying, and funeral rites from a multicultural approach. It also aims to highlight the importance of multicultural competency and the counselor ability to practice cultural responsiveness. Group activities and thought-provoking discussions will be applied with an emphasis upon race, culture, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic backgrounds, sexual orientation, and educational background

The educational goal of this presentation is to increase cultural humility and sensitivities and clarify ethical issues.

Presenters
Dr. Teneka Gash is a Counselor Educator at the University of Holy Cross in the Counseling and Behavioral
Sciences Department and a Mental Health Professional with Positive Transformations Health Services. She is a Provisional Licensed Professional Counselor, Registered Social Work, and holds an LA Ancillary Certificate as a Professional School Counselor. Dr. Gash is dedicated to collaborating with counselors to enhance the profession with interests in advocacy, self care, ethics, grief and loss, professional development, leadership, multiculturalism, trauma, PTSD, and cancer and suicide awareness/prevention.
Dr. Gash is the President of the Louisiana Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development, Assistant Director of Ethics for The Louisiana School Counseling Association, Co-Lead Mentor for the Leadership, Development and Mentoring Institute,
Co-Chair for the Louisiana School Counseling Professional Development Committee and Southern Region
Representative for the Provisional Licensed Counselors Association. She is a member of Southern
Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (SACES) and Association for Counselor Education. Dr. Gash is a member of NASW-LA and serves as the CCNLI Representative for Baton Rouge, LA.
and Supervision (ACES).
Carrie S. Davidson, LPC-S, NCC, brings a wealth of experience and expertise spanning nearly two decades. With a profound commitment to nonprofit work, her responsibilities encompass a wide spectrum, ranging from Mental Health to Advocacy.
As a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor, Carrie plays a pivotal role in delivering essential mental health services within the School-Based Mental Health Program and the Community . Her dedication to this role is underpinned by a diverse background that includes positions as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Detention Facility Counselor, Juvenile Probation Counselor, and Counseling Advocate.
Beyond her professional pursuits, Carrie cherishes spending quality time with her family, exploring new destinations through travel, nurturing her artistic and craft projects, and engaging in fellowship with like-minded individuals.
Carrie S. Davidson earned her credentials from esteemed institutions, holding degrees from both Louisiana State University and Southern University, A&M. Throughout her impressive career, spanning nearly two decades, Ms. Davidson has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to assisting teenagers and adults facing various mental health challenges, trauma-related issues, and substance abuse concerns.
In her view, working in the field of Mental Health is not just a profession but a ministry, a calling to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals struggling with mental health and related issues.
Carrie's extensive experience extends across diverse settings, including private practice, the Juvenile Justice System, Community-Based Programs, and Integrated Health Care Programs. Her approach to care is rooted in meeting individuals where they are and providing the support and guidance they need to blossom in their unique circumstances.

Ashli Savoy-King, LPC, NCC is a proud Acadiana native who has been dedicated to community service and mental
health advocacy across Louisiana for over nine years. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling and
Disability Studies and a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Southern University and A&M
College. Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Clinical Supervision and Education at the University of Holy Cross, Ashli has
presented at esteemed platforms, provides comprehensive mental health services to diverse populations, and focuses on
anxiety, depression, grief, anger management, and social skills development at Tree of Life Counseling and Consulting in
Lafayette, Louisiana.
