Date & Time

Description

Rates of mental health and addictive disorders are rapidly rising, with trauma often being a prevalent theme underlying both. In this presentation, Claudia Black, PhD, will unpack how adverse childhood events lay the groundwork for emotional dysregulation and trauma-related disorders. She will examine the shame-based defenses that frequently emerge as a result, as well as the key dynamics that must be addressed within the clinical process. The session concludes with a practical framework for treatment that can be incorporated throughout the continuum of care, including strategies to foster emotional regulation, give voice to lived experiences, build tolerance for difficult emotions, challenge core beliefs, and develop new coping skills.
