Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Define the key components of Mrs. Engle’s Integrative Treatment Model and describe how mind–body dissociation presents in clients with chronic mental health symptoms.

  • Recognize and distinguish clinical indicators of mind–body disconnection and list at least three expressive modalities that support affect regulation. .

  • Apply and outline one integrative expressive intervention to strengthen mind–body connection in clinical practice

Educational Goal

The educational goal of this workshop is for participants to learn how chronic mental health symptoms can reflect a mind–body disconnect and why integrative treatment is essential for lasting change. The workshop will demonstrate how Mrs. Engle’s model and expressive modalities can support affect regulation, strengthen mind–body connection, and enhance overall therapeutic outcomes.

Description

Clients who struggle with chronic mental health symptoms often experience a disconnect between mind and body. Effective treatment, therefore, must take an integrative approach that repairs this fundamental divide rather than addressing each component in isolation. This workshop will review the core tenets of Mrs. Engle’s Integrative Treatment Model and highlight client artwork alongside other expressive modalities. Participants will explore how these creative, experiential interventions support affect regulation, strengthen mind–body integration, and promote more cohesive, sustainable healing for individuals seeking deeper emotional awareness and improved overall functioning.

Presenters

Melissa Caldwell Engle LPC, ATR is a co-founder of Healing Springs Ranch, LLC (HSR) and is the EVP of Clinical Programming. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Registered Art Therapist (ATR) and has over 35 years of experience treating trauma and addictions. Prior to her involvement with HSR, Mrs. Caldwell Engle was the Executive Director at the Ross Institute for Psychological Trauma for 24 years. While in this position, she clinically managed three inpatient programs directed by Colin A. Ross M.D., where she was involved in the development, implementation and integration of Trauma Model Therapy (TMT) and the Trauma Model Therapy Certification Program.
