Spirituality is a huge component in the lives of many clients and clinicians alike. This presentation aims to help professionals ethically integrate spirituality into assessment and interventions in clinical practice. Spiritual assessment is an essential part of understanding clients’ beliefs, values, behaviors, perceptions and world view.

Rev. Dr. Sha'Leda Mirra

Rev. Dr. Sha’Leda Mirra serves as the Senior Pastor of Union African Methodist Episcopal Church in Lake City, Florida. She is the owner and clinical director of The Heart Centered Journey, Counseling, Coaching, & Consultation. In addition to her private practice, Rev. Dr. Mirra is the author of “The Heart Centered Journey,” and “African American Males in the AME Church and Psychological Help Seeking.”

Rev. Dr. Mirra is an Assistant Professor at Saint Leo University teaching both Graduate and Undergraduate Social Work and is also the founder and president of a non-profit agency Daughters of Eve, Inc. which focuses on holistic wellness for African American women. As a life-long resident in Columbia County, Dr. Mirra has served as a community activist, advocating for causes such as child abuse and neglect, domestic violence, and mental health education within the African American community. In addition, much focus has been devoted to consulting within the spiritual community to improve education, combat stigma, and equip the spiritual community with essential resources to resume their role as the help seeking entity for its citizenry.

Dr. Mirra is a graduate of Saint Leo University attaining both a Master of Criminology and Psychology and a Master of Social Work. She has also received a Master of Divinity from Regent University, and her Ph.D. in Psychology from Capella University. Dr. Mirra is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and a Certified Addictions Professional. Dr. Mirra has a passion for ministry and education, as both are an integral part of improving lives within the community. Dr. Mirra serves on various community and ministry boards educating and advocating specific to topics such as mental wellness, self care, improving community relations with law enforcement, and integrating spiritual assessment and intervention within the social work profession.
