Educational Goal
Description
Healthy, restorative sleep is a critical and modifiable factor for brain health, disease prevention, and overall performance—impacting learning, memory, emotional regulation, physical health, and longevity. Clinicians can improve outcomes by recognizing sleep disorders, avoiding overreliance on sedating medications, and implementing evidence-based strategies and supplements to optimize patient sleep. This presentation explores the connection between sleep and brain health, highlighting how sleep problems impact every risk factor for brain health. Participants will examine the significant overlap between sleep problems and mental health conditions. The session will provide practical guidance on screening for and referring patients with suspected sleep issues, along with an introduction to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I).
