This interactive workshop will explore how structural inequities—particularly housing instability, food insecurity, and educational disparities—significantly influence mental health outcomes across diverse populations. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the systemic barriers contributing to mental health challenges and examine evidence-based public health approaches that aim to address these foundational issues. Through case studies and facilitated discussions, the session will also highlight collaborative frameworks that integrate mental health strategies into broader public health programming, empowering professionals to adopt more holistic and equitable approaches to community wellness.

Presenters

Calvin Roberson Jr, MHA, MPH
Calvin E. Roberson Jr. is the President and CEO of Jireh Vision, LLC. He serves as Director of Operations at Indiana University (IU) Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center, and he is the former Vice President of Planning and Program Development at the Indiana Minority Health Coalition. Additionally, Mr. Roberson has served as an Adolescent Health Educator for the Marion County Public Health Department. Mr. Roberson is a public health professional with over twenty years of experience leading staff, external professionals, and community leaders in program design, development, and implementation; project coordination and administration; and client recruitment and retention. He is an epidemiological researcher that works with and leads diverse teams in designing and employing research studies, conducting program evaluations, and performing statistical analysis. Mr. Roberson holds dual Masters Degrees in Health Administration and Public Health. In addition, Mr. Roberson is a Therapeutic Foster Parent for the National Youth Advocate Program, Elder with Ebenezer Christian Church, and an Adjunct Professor for Indiana University - Purdue University of Indianapolis. He also serves on several boards, committees, councils, etc. advocating for health equity.
