Educational Goal

The educational goal of this workshop is to equip participants to critically evaluate AI tools in behavioral health, apply responsible adoption and governance principles in order to strengthen clinical decision-making, protect patient safety, and integrate emerging AI technologies thoughtfully and ethically as the field evolves.

Description

Across this workshop, we examine the real state of AI in behavioral health, separating proven applications from hype by looking at the data, the evidence, and the documented risks. We explore how the public and clinicians are already using AI, and the critical difference between validated, clinician-directed tools and general-purpose chatbots. We then review the regulatory landscape, including Utah's leading policy model and HB 452, before mapping concrete use cases across the continuum of care. Finally, we offer a practical framework - drawn from the NATSAP advisory guidance - for responsibly evaluating, adopting, and governing AI within therapeutic programs.
