Screening for Weight Suppression

|

Information

Date & Time

Description

This presentation will introduce a novel, weight-inclusive method to assess weight suppression—conceptualized as signs and symptoms related to a weight lower than an individual's historical weight trajectory—in both adults and adolescents. This method was designed to be utilized in both higher levels of care and outpatient ED treatment.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Summarize what has contributed to the definition of weight suppression.

  • Identify benefits to patients of conceptualizing weight as weight suppression.

  • Identify criteria to assess weight suppression.

  • Describe how to address weight suppression in a treatment plan.

Educational Goal

Participants will learn to evaluate nutritional status using criteria beyond traditional weight calculations and understand how this information can inform treatment plans focused on addressing symptoms of weight suppression. This includes recognizing individuals who may have been overlooked for weight restoration when relying solely on conventional assessment methods.
