  • Describe at least 2 factors to consider in seeking treatment for OUD patients, including rapid engagement strategies.

  • Discuss the importance and urgency of identifying and engaging individuals with opioid use disorder in evidence-based treatment at the site of their first interaction with healthcare services.

  • Apply 2-3 principles or practices in practice settings to support rapid engagement for patients with Opioid Use Disorder

Educational Goal

The educational goal of this workshop is to help healthcare providers develop practices that support the timely and appropriate engagement, referral, and treatment of Opioid Use Disorder patients across settings.

Description

Millions of people in the United States are living with Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). Successful implementation of strategies to improve and expand access and linkages to care depends on collaborative efforts among healthcare providers and community leaders across public health, criminal justice, social services, business, and government. This presentation will discuss barriers, opportunities, strategies, and solutions for programs and providers to support linking people with OUD to evidence-based care. Case examples will be shared. Local and travel to treatment models will be reviewed.

Presenters

Siobhan A. Morse, MHSA, CRC, CAI, MAC
Siobhan A. Morse, MHSA, CRC, CAI, MAC is Product Director for the Behavioral Division at Universal Health Services (UHS), charged with spearheading the research, clinical operations management and new product development focusing on substance use disorder treatment. Ms. Morse holds a Master’s degree in health services administration and is nationally certified as a Master Addiction Counselor, Clinical Research Coordinator and ARISE Interventionist. She regularly presents original research worldwide, has published multiple articles in peer reviewed scientific journals, and conducts education within the addiction services network in UHS. Recently she presented at the request of the Department of Justice to over 2000 federal grant recipients on treating opioid use disorder (OUD). She contributed a chapter highlighting her lived experience with substance use disorder, trauma and mental health to the book, Breakthrough, which later won a Book Excellence Award. In recognition of her dedicated work to support Americans who are in or seeking recovery, Ms. Morse was presented a Presidential Proclamation in 2020 by the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy and Bureau of Justice Administration. She also currently serves as an advisor to REACH United and the National Institute of Behavioral Health.
