Educational Goal
Description
This workshop examines the essential role of clinical resourcing as a foundational intervention in the treatment of trauma and co-occurring substance use disorders. While many treatment models emphasize reprocessing traumatic material, insufficient attention to stabilization and resourcing often leads to dysregulation, relapse, and reduced treatment efficacy. Participants will explore the distinction between internal resourcing (e.g., self-compassion, affect regulation, attachment repair) and external/relational resourcing (e.g., therapeutic alliance, corrective relational experiences, community supports). Grounded in attachment theory and trauma-informed care, this presentation provides a practical framework for determining when clients are adequately resourced to engage in deeper therapeutic work. Through case examples and applied strategies, attendees will gain clinically actionable tools to enhance emotional regulation, strengthen resilience, and improve outcomes across a range of therapeutic modalities.
