The SAIGE Rainbow Certification aims to encourage counselors to enhance their understanding and support for individuals within the LGBTGEQIAP+ communities. It is important to note that this Certification does not impose mandatory standards that must be strictly followed to provide effective counseling for LGBTGEQIAP+ individuals. Instead, the guidelines provided in the SAIGE RainbowCertification are intended to complement the existing values and standards outlined in the American Counseling Association (ACA) Code of Ethics and the Counselors for Social Justice (CSJ) Code of Ethics.

In accordance with the ACA Code of Ethics (2014), the SAIGE Rainbow Certification is designed to “recognize diversity and embrace a cross-cultural approach in support of the worth, dignity, potential, and uniqueness of people within their social and cultural contexts” (p. 3). It is important to utilize the information presented in the courses alongside evidence-based counseling approaches that adhere to the best practices in the field. The SAIGE Rainbow Certification serves as a supportive resource to assist counselors in providing effective and inclusive care to individuals within the LGBTGEQIAP+ communities.
