Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Identify 2 ways in which medication options can be discussed.

  • Identify and describe at least 3 factors that may affect treatment response to psychotropic medications.

  • Explain how each member of the psychosocial oncology team can facilitate discussions surrounding psychotropic medications.

Educational Goal

The educational goal of this workshop is to identify ways in which framing the use of medications in psychosocial oncology practice can be effective and beneficial and how different team members can facilitate the prescribing practices in the field.

Description

Addressing the mental health of people with cancer benefits from an interdisciplinary approach. Prescribing medications to manage mood, cognition and other sources of distress can be part of that. It is important for all members of the psychosocial oncology team to have a basic understanding of the use of psychotropics in order to ensure a collaborative approach to managing this complex patient population. This webinar will provide an overview of prescribing principles and using frameworks in psychotherapy to facilitate discussions about medications.
