Description

Eating disorders are often approached through behavioral or cognitive frameworks, yet for many clients, ED symptoms are rooted in trauma, dissociation, and disrupted embodiment. These behaviors may function as adaptive strategies to manage overwhelming internal states and restore a sense of safety or control. This 60-minute webinar explores how non-ordinary states of consciousness—including dissociation and trauma-related shifts in awareness—intersect with eating disorder presentations. Grounded in trauma-informed, ethical practice, participants will gain practical strategies for stabilization and nervous-system regulation that can be applied across treatment settings.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Recognize how trauma, dissociation, and non-ordinary states of consciousness can shape eating disorder symptoms

  • Describe eating disorder behaviors as adaptive nervous-system regulation strategies

  • Apply trauma-informed stabilization and grounding interventions in eating disorder treatment

  • Identify ethical and scope-of-practice considerations when working with altered states

Educational Goal

The educational goal of this workshop explores how non-ordinary states of consciousness—including dissociation and trauma-related shifts in awareness—intersect with eating disorder presentations. Grounded in trauma-informed, ethical practice, participants will gain practical strategies for stabilization and nervous-system regulation that can be applied across treatment settings.
