Description
While GLP-1 medications now carry FDA approval for and widespread clinical use across a range of medical conditions, there is limited research examining their use in patients with eating disorders. This presentation will review currently available GLP medications, mechanism of action, and evidence base for use in diabetes control and weight management. The presenter will critically examine preliminary reports of these medications for treating addiction and binge eating from an eating disorder, health equity, weight inclusive and holistic lens. Practical tips to navigate risk/benefit discussions with patients, families and medical providers will be given based on our limited evidence base. Best clinical practice guideline given the limits of what we currently know will be offered.
