Educational Goal
The educational goals of this workshop are to increase awareness of the importance of early identification of eating disorders through appropriate screening and questioning, promote recognition of the complex interplay between psychological and medical factors in eating disorders to support comprehensive, patient-centered care, and support clinicians in making informed treatment decisions by understanding how medical status influences the appropriate level of care and intervention.
Description
Effectively treating patients with eating disorders requires a comprehensive understanding of the available Levels of Care (LOC) and the ability to match the appropriate level with the patient's medical and psychological presentation. Accurate assessment and placement are essential for optimizing treatment outcomes. This educational program will equip the audience with the knowledge needed to assess risk, identify complications, and make informed decisions about the most appropriate treatment path.
In addition to the target audience listed, this workshop is designed for physicians, psychiatrists, and other medical providers seeking to enhance their knowledge of eating disorder treatment.

Christine Wood, MD, CEDS, FAAP, CLE
Dr. Christine Wood is a pediatrician with expertise in the management of the medical complications of eating disorders and is a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS) as designated by the International Association of Eating Disorder Specialists (IAEDP). She has been in private pediatric practice in North County San Diego from 1990 until 2022 and then had her own practice for two years as an eating disorder consultant.
Since 2013, Dr. Wood has been the Medical Director for the residential eating disorder treatment center at Center for Discovery in Del Mar. In 2022, she was appointed as the National Physician Liaison for the eating disorder division of Center for Discovery. She has published several journal and magazine articles. Of note, she was a co-author of a Clinical Report published in September 2016 in Pediatrics, titled “Preventing Eating Disorders and Obesity in Adolescents.” She is also the author of the book, How to Get Kids to Eat Great & Love It. She graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School and completed her pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.
