  • Summarize the current landscape of digital therapy, integrating APA guidelines for ethical and effective digital therapy practices.

  • Evaluate the benefits and challenges of digital therapy, considering accessibility, engagement, confidentiality, and therapeutic outcomes.

  • Demonstrate how to integrate digital therapeutic tools, including PlaySpace, to improve engagement, client outcomes, and therapeutic efficiency.

  • Apply digital therapeutic tools to both in-person and virtual sessions to improve engagement, client outcomes, and therapeutic efficiency.

Looking for new ways to keep young clients engaged in therapy? This interactive workshop equips you with practical, evidence-based digital tools to enhance both virtual and in-person sessions to meet the rising needs of the youth mental health crisis. We’ll explore APA guidelines for digital therapy, and discuss the benefits and challenges of integrating technology into clinical work. You will gain hands-on experience with therapeutic digital tools like PlaySpace. You’ll walk away with an expanded ready-to-use digital therapeutic toolbox to create meaningful, ethical, and engaging sessions for youth, helping you stay ahead in the evolving world of digital therapy.

Elizabeth Cawley, PhD
Dr. Elizabeth Cawley is a leading expert in student mental health. She is the Chief Clinical Officer at PlaySpace and has held leadership roles at Keel Mind and ASEQ|Studentcare, where she developed national e-mental health initiatives. She was a key contributor to Canada’s first National Standard for Post-Secondary Student Mental Health and has advised governments and institutions on digital mental health strategies. A faculty member at Dalhousie University, Dr. Cawley is committed to advancing evidence-based, student-centered mental health solutions. She also serves on multiple advisory boards, including Playful Mindset. Dr. Cawley has a PhD from McGill University.
Nicky Seligman, MSc, CCLS
Nicky Seligman, MSc, CCLS, is a Certified Child Life Specialist specializing in grief, trauma, and pediatric mental health. With a Master’s in pediatric psychosocial care and over seven years of clinical experience at major hospitals and non-profits, Nicky understands the challenges of engaging with young clients and the importance of finding creative ways to foster connection, resilience, and healing. As an experienced educator, Nicky develops training and resources for clinicians on child-centered interventions, equipping professionals with the tools to better support children and families navigating adversity. Nicky has presented at national conferences on crisis intervention, grief support, and digital therapy integration. Passionate about integrating technology into therapy, Nicky is a clinical consultant at PlaySpace, and helps clinicians enhance engagement and effectiveness in both virtual and in-person care.
