Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Identify 3 signs that a family or family member is experiencing caregiver burnout.

  • Identify 2-3 skills to teach families to manage emotion regulation in the context of relationships.

  • Explain how to utilize 2 interventions to support families on managing self-care while caring for a loved one with an eating disorder.

Educational Goal

The educational goal of this workshop is for participants to learn how to assess burnout and learn skills that families can use to manage self-care.

Description

This training is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to support families who are caring for a loved one with an eating disorder. It will focus on recognizing caregiver burnout, teaching emotional regulation skills for maintaining healthy relationships, and utilizing practical interventions to support self-care. Through a combination of theoretical understanding and hands-on strategies, attendees will learn to provide essential tools to help families navigate the emotional and physical challenges of caregiving.

Presenters

Elizabeth Damon, LPC, R-DMT
Elizabeth has been working with Center for Discovery since 2015 and has held previous roles of Program Therapist, Program Director, Regional Director, and Regional Clinical Director. She is currently a Clinical Training and Development Specialist. Elizabeth is licensed as a Professional Counselor and Nationally Registered Dance/Movement Therapist. Elizabeth's role now focuses on training compliance and development, clinical key performance indicators, and ensuring clinical quality and integrity in our programs. She enjoys providing supervision and consultation to clinical leaders and therapists and believes that connection and collaboration allow the space for joy to reignite our reasons for why we do the work that we do. Elizabeth believes in the importance of providing a safe place for patients to foster and strengthen healthy relationships to support their journey towards real life recovery, and that we are best able to do this as providers when we are feeling connected to our "why".
Juli Agajanian, LMFT, CEDS-S
Juli has spent the last 23 years working with adolescents and their families in a variety of settings, and has been with Center for Discovery since 2007. She is currently the Director of Training at Center for Discovery. Her previous experience includes working as a Regional Director, as well as a Program Director at one of Discovery’s eating disorder residential locations She has worked at the PHP level of care in adolescent mental health, and worked as an in-home behavioral coach. As the Director of Clinical Supervision, she is responsible for overseeing and training the clinical staff in Discovery’s eating disorder division and is a certified Eating Disorders Specialist and Supervisor. Juli is a national speaker on the subject of eating disorders.  Her passion for clinical excellence and skill as a mentor and teacher have inspired countless members of the Center for Discovery team. Juli is a fearlessly authentic psychotherapist with an approachable style, and especially enjoys helping clients reconnect with their families through the process of family therapy.
